Mary L. Burgener, 92, of Assumption, formerly of Decatur passed away Sunday December 18, 2011 at Fair Havens Christian Home in Decatur, IL.
A service to celebrate Mary's life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday December 22, 2011 at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood St. Funeral Home with visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday December 21, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park Cemetery in Harristown.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Assumption.
Mary was born on July 21, 1919 in Windsor, IL the daughter of Harry F. and Flora Edwards McQueen. She married Orville Burgener on July 3, 1937 and he preceded her in death on April 21, 1980. Mary was a member of First United Methodist Church in Assumption and worked for JC Penney’s, Hazel’s Korner and Viking House as a sales clerk in retail. Mary and Orville lived on a farm north of Decatur (Hickory Point Twp) until 1956 and then moved to Assumption. Mary was a former member of the Drill Team with the Rebekah Lodge, member of the Decatur Home Extension and the Farm Bureau of Christian County. Mary was active with the Senior Citizens of Assumption; she was an avid bowler, an avid seamstress and 4-H Leader. Mary loved the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and the Illini. She loved watching all different sports on TV. Mary loved and enjoyed watching all of her grandchildren’s sport activities.
Mary is survived by her daughters: Kay Cram and husband Paul of Washington, IL and Carol M. Hutchens and husband Max of Assumption; grandchildren: Todd Hutchens and wife Lindsay, Paula Stuck and husband Mike, Scott Hutchens and wife Jennifer, Kary Dowling and husband Robert, and Stacie Hutchens; great grandchildren: Rachel, Emillee, Lane, Demi, Jori, Kati, Abby, Mason and Dexter.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Dean Burgener, brother Francis McQueen and sister Marie Eckhardt.
